So glad to have some sunshine again, but it sure does look cold outside! The rain these past few days was killin' me. New coasters and even more potholders in the shop today. These are my favorite so far, and its always nice to turn the little scraps into something pretty.
My studio looks like a bomb went off, but a pretty fabric bomb! Coasters and potholders are coming together to make their little debut on Saturday at the Handmade Holiday Craft Fair. Every good cook deserves some flashy potholders. Can't wait until Saturday? Get these pretties over here.
It's holiday week over here, and I'm working double time like Santa's elves to make some goodies. I'll be selling items at the 3rd Ward Handmade Holiday Craft Fair. If you're in Brooklyn on Saturday I hope you'll stop by and say hello. This is my first big craft fair, so I'll be happy to see some friendly faces! I'm also listing all sorts of new goodies in the shop this week, especially items perfect for gift giving!
I've got a few quilt tops going, and this is my favorite so far -- it's a big one (60"x60") despite the apperance here. The yellow fabric has these beautiful hints of purple that the border ties in so well, and have I mentioned that this yellow is my very favorite color? I'll be marathon quilting tomorrow and Thursday wrapping these babies up! Can't wait to see them finished, and I'll be machine quilting to help those holiday gift giving budgets.
I'm working on another border for my medallion quilt, and this being my second hand piecing project I've been reflecting on hand piecing a lot. I just want to say, it is worth it because it does actually look different! The enjoyment of being so up close and personal with the project is one thing, but I am actually mesmerized by the way there is this ever so subtle texture change at the seams that could never happen with machine quilting. It happens as a result of the spacing of the hand stitches, rather than the consistent, mechanical tension and lack of gaps with machine seams. Its not messy or imperfect, just different and I love the way it keeps the top from feeling too flat. It was really the perfect project to work on this weekend, as I've been really missing slowness lately. This project made for a wonderfully refreshing slow weekend in the studio with the warm November sunshine streaming in.
