The rows are getting longer, and a teensy bit fatter. That means the hand sewing is goin' oh so slowly. A few more rows and I'll be saying this quilt is getting big! I am totally obsessed with the way the corner squares look as they build outwards, and I think I can pay a little more attention to the colors and fabrics I'm using to make the effect stronger. I'm actually beginning to feel like they're almost more important than the rows themselves. The whole thing could be white solid fabric and those little corner squares would still be the very best part. These are the kinds of things you notice and fall in love with when you work on something oh so tedious and oh so wonderfully slowly. Should we place bets on when I'll finish this? I'm thinking it's one year down and one to go, but maybe I'll surprise myself. I'm jonesing to get to the hand quilting part.

Oh, hi! I'm still not used to posting photos of myself in the clothing that I'm making. Unfortunately it just doesn't make sense to photograph it on my dress form - the whole point is that it fits my real life body right?! Love wearing this dress so much, and I still can't get over the fabric. I used Burda 7376, and I'm excited to make tunic versions with super light weight fabrics. I was even thinking an almost sheer cotton worn with a cami would be so gorgeous for a blouse. This is definitely going to be a warm weather favorite, and oh so perfect for summer parties. Happy weekend!

I've been working on a jumbo log cabin quilt for one of the cool young men in my life. This is one of the only quilts I've ever made without solid fabrics, and I'm certainly missing them while quilting. I still think it is going to have a wonderfully scrappy vintage feeling when it is finished. The brighter Ikat fabric is sporadically spread through the design, and I love it so much. This picture doesn't quite do it justice, but when I have it all finished I'll post a full on shot. You'd never think that fabric belonged with all of this homespun and reproduction fabric, but I say it works marvelously! My great-grandmother and her wild color sense would definitely agree!

Now that I've started to make clothing this whole new world of fabric has opened up to me while fabric shopping. This was a find that was enough to make me fall over - 100% nubby silk, with this fabulous 100% silk interlock gauze somehow attached to the back. Screaming DRESS... right? Oh yes please -- and I just love the fact that the oh so soft interlock on the back means no lining! Bet you didnt guess that it was only $10 a yard. I probably would have spent $40/yd I just love the marbled dye job so much. I'm thinking this dress is going to very quickly become THE summer dress this year.

The beautiful Lillian Lane came into this world last Saturday around 10am! I was waiting to ship this quilt so that I could embroider her name, which after 9 months of waiting for my dear friend to 'cook her up' was a name I was dying to learn. I can't wait to meet her in person, and hopefully this quilt will give her comfort and grow with her as she explores this crazy world we live in. Welcome to it Lily - hugs and kisses, Carrie.
